Adam Sollazzo Wins the StatSheet Atlantic Sun Player of the Week - January 16th, 2012

Adam Sollazzo has won the StatSheet Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award for the week ending January 16th. Florida Gulf Coast's Bernard Thompson has been recognized as StatSheet Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Week. And last but certainly not least, Stetson's Willie Green has won StatSheet's Atlantic Sun 6th Man of the Week. Sollazzo tallied 3 rebounds per game, 50% shooting, and 19 points per game. The East Tennessee State senior led the Buccaneers to victories against Kennesaw State and Jacksonville.

Sollazzo led scoring for the Buccaneers with 20 points while adding 5 assists in a close 73-69 win against Kennesaw State. He followed that up with a team-leading 18 points plus an additional 7 assists in a 72-58 win against Jacksonville.

This is the first time that Adam Sollazzo has been named the StatSheet Atlantic Sun Player of the Week. However, he has come in second once. The runner-up this week is junior Kerron Johnson from Belmont. Honorable mention goes to Mick Hedgepeth, a senior from Belmont.

StatSheet Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Week: Florida Gulf Coast's Bernard Thompson

Bernard Thompson averaged 33 minutes as a starter for Florida Gulf Coast. His averages in both rebounding (9.5 per game) and free throws (3.0 per game) topped all Atlantic Sun freshmen. In a 77-66 win over Jacksonville, Thompson led the Eagles in scoring with 16 points and in rebounding with 7. Following that in a thin 84-80 win against Lipscomb, he added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

This is the second StatSheet Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Week honor for Bernard Thompson. The runner-up is Martin Smith from Lipscomb. Ty Greene from USC Upstate receives honorable mention.

StatSheet Atlantic Sun 6th Man of the Week: Stetson's Willie Green

Willie Green, a 6-7 Sophomore forward, averaged 23 minutes of action over two games for the Hatters. In a close 68-64 win over North Florida, Green led the way for the Hatters with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Then in an 84-71 loss to Belmont, he racked up 8 points and 7 rebounds.

This is the second StatSheet Atlantic Sun 6th Man of the Week award for Willie Green. Sherwood Brown, a junior guard from Florida Gulf Coast, is runner up. Jodd Maxey, a sophomore forward from USC Upstate, receives honorable mention. Including this week, East Tennessee State players have been named StatSheet Atlantic Sun Player of the Week 2 times this season.
